I started out as a photojournalist. I attended Western Kentucky University but lost patience with the degree process and without graduating went to work for a newspaper on the strength of my portfolio.
After a few years of newspaper work I became interested in art photography. I just about went broke living from print sales! I soon decided I didn’t much like being poor for art’s sake. I soon went to work as an assistant to some commercial photographers in order to learn a more lucrative facet of photography.
In 1987 I opened a small photography studio in Nashville doing “head-shots”, model comps, some weddings and publicity for musicians.
By 1990 I was doing a lot of fashion for regional department stores and some lower budget album covers. By 1993 I was on the list for the major recording labels and did my share of celebrity work for country and gospel artists.
In the mid-nineties I was starting to land bigger budget corporate and advertising work. I added product photography to my repertoire and continue to do a good deal of photography for catalogs, ads, etc..
To this day I do corporate, editorial, advertising and CDs/publicity photos for musicians. I license stock photography and have opened an art gallery in the front of the studio (the art still doesn’t pay it’s way).
In 1996 we moved from the city (Nashville) to a farm near Center Hill lake east of Nashville. My wife and daughter raise and train quarter horses. We have three great dogs, one stray kitten and too many horses to count.
We stay busy and life is good.
